Dear readers,
One of the things I love about substack is the option to feature ‘guest posts’ on one’s account. It’s a great way for people to discover publications that they otherwise might have missed, and - dare I say it - even make ‘internet friends’ with fascinating people. I know quite a few of you who subscribe are yourselves writers, so this is an official call for guest posts. I don’t mind how long or short your essays are, or how personal vs argumentative. On here, I write about pretty much anything I care about:
literature, faith, motherhood, feminism, bioethics, growing up, leaving academia…even occasionally food! So, as long as your essay is in keeping with my basic values (if you’re a regular reader you probably have a pretty good sense of what those are!), I’ll publish it here.
If you’re not a writer, but you want to contribute intellectually to our little corner of the internet here, you can also let me know what you’d like me to write more about. It can be as general as ‘I’d like you to focus on book reviews’ or as specific as ‘Can you please write an essay on C. S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce?’ (really, I’m giving that example because it’s a book I want to reread, but of course it could be anything at all). At this moment in my life, I can feel myself wanting more and more to write about parenting and motherhood, so if that’s something you’d like, do let me know as well.
Finally, some of you may not know, but I actually have a YouTube channel as well, where I almost exclusively focus on literary analysis (especially Jane Austen). If you’d like me to occasionally upload the videos here as well, I’d also be happy to do that.
I will be back next week with a recommendations of the month post (I’ve read and watched a lot of good stuff in July!). Until then, I look forward to reading your comments and hearing from you!
This is so generous of you to lesser known writers. I was delighted when I recently discovered your work through Fairer Disputations. I share many of the same interests--literature, motherhood, discerning work/life balance, bioethics, and even food 😊 I'd love to contribute at some point in the future though I'm going through that wonderful upheaval of a new baby right now, so I'm taking a break from writing for a while. I'm looking forward to see the writers you do feature in the meantime.
