A brief interruption from my normal content here on substack this week, to announce that our baby girl has arrived. Earlier this week, as I was working on an article about parenthood incidentally, I realised I was having regular contractions and made my way to the hospital. I almost brought my laptop with me as I was convinced I still had a while to go (my husband had better sense than me and convinced me otherwise). But lo and behold, once they assessed me it turned out I was already in established labour. Baby was born around eight hours after that. The story of her birth is one for another day. Last year, I wrote about the birth of my son for The Lamp, and found it incredibly healing, so I may well write about baby girl’s birth, too. I also have many more exciting projects on the go for the rest of 2023, including publishing more recipes, more articles, more videos, and a substack post about why Mrs. Bennet is the unsung hero of Pride and Prejudice (trust me, it’s not as crazy as it sounds!). But until then, I have a lot of rest to get. So, as I return to my hot tea and to the latest episode of The Great British Bake Off, I want to thank you for reading Literary Convert, which has brought me so much joy this year. Until next week!

Wonderful news! I was thinking of you, and your baby girl, reading about the terrible plight of the infant in the UK denied medical care.
I am very happy for you and your husband.
