Dear reader,
This week I was very excited to write a post for my monthly film club. But, as it turns out, you can catch the flu in June, too. My immune system must be the worst it's ever been, since giving birth to my daughter, because recently I've been ill more weeks than I haven't. Properly ill, the kind where all you can do is just lie in bed and wait for it to away (which is even more unpleasant with young children, shout out to my husband for looking after them while I recovered!). So, please forgive me for pushing my film review to next week, by which time I will hopefully be feeling better.
My plan is to review a surreal, quirky film called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's a sci-fi rom-com drama, it's really weird, it's filmed in a very unusual way, and it's also moving in a deep and unexpected way and portrays the workings of memory very insightfully. The title is taken from an Alexander Pope poem, which endears it to me even more, as he's one of my favourite 18th-century poets.
I appreciate your understanding as I recover and get back to my writing in the next few days.
Take good care of yourself.
Get well soon!
